How it works

Shoot your round. The watch does the bookkeeping.

01 — Start

Start on your wrist

Pick your bow preset — or the lightweight count-only mode — set distance and arrows per end, and step to the line.

02 — Shoot

The watch counts

100 Hz motion sensing and the microphone confirm each release together — counted on-device, hands free. Adjust manually anytime.

03 — Review

Review on iPhone

Sessions sync live. Score your ends, see heart rate and hold per arrow, and watch the heatmap fill in over weeks.

On the line

It hears the shot you just made.

The watch samples motion at 100 Hz and listens for the release. Only when the bow-arm movement and the sound line up does it count an arrow — so footsteps, nocking and chatter don't. All of it on-device; audio is never stored or uploaded.

Know your bow

Your bow is part of the data.

Save a preset for every bow you shoot — draw weight and draw length included. Each session records which bow you used, and calorie estimates are weighted to your actual setup, not a generic workout.

The next big Arrow Tempo update is in active development: raise your iPhone at the target and on-device AI will find the face — FITA, Vegas 3-spot or vertical 3-face — outline every arrow, and score the end for you to confirm. It will ship in a free App Store update.

Will detect the target face and every arrow on it, fully on-device
Will score the rings and flag low-confidence hits for your review
Will plot camera-scored impacts straight into your heatmap

Until then, scoring is quick drag-to-place on a full target face.

Questions

Before you head to the line.

What is Arrow Tempo?
Arrow Tempo is an archery training app for Apple Watch and iPhone. The watch detects every release using motion and sound, counts your arrows automatically, and records heart rate, hold time and calories for each shot. Sessions sync to the iPhone app for scoring, history and insights. It's free to download on the App Store.
How does the Apple Watch count my arrows?
The watch samples motion at 100 Hz and listens for the sound of the release. When the bow-arm movement and the audio spike line up, that's an arrow — counted on-device, hands free. You can adjust the count manually at any time.
Which Apple Watch and iPhone do I need?
An Apple Watch running watchOS 10 or later, paired with an iPhone on iOS 17 or later. The watch does the counting on the line; the iPhone companion handles scoring, history and insights.
Is Arrow Tempo free?
Yes — the free download includes automatic arrow counting, session recording, history, live sync and Apple Health workouts. ArrowCadence Pro adds the haptic cadence trainer, premium scoring and the signature heatmap for $4.99/month or $34.99/year, with a 2-week free trial.
Does it work for recurve and compound bows?
Yes. Bow presets store the draw weight and draw length of each bow you shoot, calorie estimates are weighted to your setup, and distance and arrows-per-end are configurable for both recurve and compound practice.
Does it record workouts to Apple Health?
Every session is saved as an Archery workout in Apple Health, with heart rate and active calories estimated per arrow.
Is my data private?
Yes. Audio is analysed on-device and never stored or uploaded, and there are no user accounts. Your sessions live on your devices, with optional iCloud backup.
When is camera scoring coming?
AI camera scoring — point your iPhone at the target and every arrow is detected and scored on-device — is in active development and will arrive in a free App Store update. Today you score ends with quick drag-to-place on a full target face.
Can I just count arrows without scoring?
Yes. The lightweight count-only mode skips rounds and scoring entirely — step up, shoot, and the watch keeps the tally.
Does my data sync between watch and iPhone?
Sessions sync live from watch to iPhone and are kept indefinitely. iCloud backup and restore protects them if you switch devices.
